In this session Prof Paul Chadwick will be focusing on the correct diagnosis of inflammation and infection. Specific focus will be on the Charcot foot within the Diabetic patient. The talk however will highlight the universal difference between inflammation and infection and the importance of correct management according to international guidelines.
In this session Dr Jennifer Coetzee will provide more insight from a microbiologist perspective on our friendly microbiome neighborhood. She will also address when this environment has become the opposite and how important it is to make the right diagnosis.

Dr Judey Pretorius will be highligting some of the non surgical and surgical options available for you to look your best and to take care of your skin.
Liposculpture is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess fat from specific areas, enhancing body contour. Fat cell grafting involves transferring harvested fat cells to another area for volume and shape enhancement. These techniques are commonly used in cosmetic surgery to achieve natural and long-lasting body sculpting results.
Prof Elna McIntosh needs no introduction and this session will be a thought provoking session on the impact of skin on our intimate relationships. Our sexuality is part of being human and when a break in the skin occur this can have a tremendous effect on the sexual well being of the individual.
A wound is not always what we think it is and Sr Liezl Naude will focus on the correct assessment of wounds as well as the understanding the underlying aetiology of the open wound. In order to follow the correct treatment plan it is of pivotal importance to correctly diagnosed the aetiology of a wound as well as the underlying pathophysiology.
Sr Valana Skinner will be sharing her unique expertise on the management of hard-to-heal and palliative wounds. The importance of looking after the surrounding skin as well as the wound will be discussed.
Surgical site infection is a world wide problem and South Africa is no different. Sr Zhavandre van der Merwe will be sharing the latest update on surgical site infections as well as the recent African and international consensus documents.
Dr Ethel Andrews will discuss the consequences of delayed treatment exploring the potential impact of inadequite care in burn injuries, including heightened infection risk, delayed wound healing and long-term complications.
Prof Paul Chadwick will be addressing the latest advances within the wound care environment also showcasing what we can expect from technology and AI in the future.
Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a condition characterized by fragile and loose skin. Due to its delicate nature, the skin is susceptible to injuries, leading to the formation of painful blisters. These blisters can pose severe complications if they become infected, potentially resulting in fatality. EB is a hereditary condition that can affect anyone, typically manifesting its initial symptoms during infancy or toddlerhood.
Dr Rakesh Newaj is a well-known dermatologist with a keen interest in rare skin disorders such as Hidradenitis suppurativa, Pyoderma Gangrenosum, necrotising fascitits, vitiligo,and others. He will be sharing first hand how to diagnose and treat some of these diseases.
Pressure injuries are incredibly difficult to manage especially within the immobile patient. Our Paraplegic and Quadroplegic patients also face unique challenges which needs to be addressed. Dr Francois Theron is part of a multi-disciplinary rehab team and will discuss the challenges of the spinal injury patient.
Lauren Brown is a Podiatrist with a keen interest in sport injuries. She will be shedding light on the prevention and treatment of friction injuries.

Lymphoedema management post-surgery plays a crucial role in promoting optimal recovery and reducing the risk of complications. Following surgical procedures that involve the removal or disruption of lymph nodes, such as lymph node dissection or cancer-related surgeries, lymphoedema can occur as a result of impaired lymphatic drainage.
